Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Counselling from Central Institute of Technology (now Wellington Institute of Technology). This applied degree covers a broad range of training : client-centred practice, integrated theory and practice, counselling theories, introduction to research, social policy, human development, psychology, specific areas of counselling e.g working with children and adolescents, cognitive behavioural approaches, systemic approaches, intimate relationships, counselling in a mental health context, historical sexual abuse, theories of substance use, misuse and addiction, Treaty of Waitangi. This, together with my life experience and personal values, gave me a solid theoretical base from which to develop my practice as did membership of NZAC for over 20 years.
