The Way I Like To Work
I have an integrative approach to counselling. I am trained in a broad range of therapy modalities which means I am able to access and adapt different techniques suitable for you to help make the change you desire. Therapeutic approaches I draw from include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotionally Focussed Therapy for Couples, TA (Parent Adult Child framework) Solution-focussed Brief Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
My way of working and worldview link well with a narrative approach to counselling. I find the postmodern therapies energising and strengths based rather than the modernist or psychodynamic approaches which can tend to focus on deficit.
My approach to counselling is collaborative and non-pathologising and positions you as the expert on your life. My job is to join with you to renew or discover the helpful aspects of you, your life and relationships which may have disappeared from view and been overshadowed by problems or grief. I also approach my work with a holistic view, meaning - physical or physiological, spiritual, cognitive, emotional, behavioural, developmental and social context - will be taken into account by me.
